Spring is in the Air!

Volunteers Needed at the Garden

Spring is officially here, and the community garden is buzzing with excitement! With the support of our amazing Council, we are slowly preparing for a massive planting season ahead.

We are currently looking for friendly volunteers to help our amazing staff weed the plant bed borders and tidy the nursery section.

You don't need to be a member. Volunteering is a great way to see the community garden and meet the team before committing to a membership.

Composting 101: Turning Scraps into Garden Gold

From Markus Spiske

Healthy plants start with healthy soil. Because sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Semaphore Hill Community Garden, turning once-discarded kitchen scraps into "discarded gold" reduces waste in local landfills while creating nutrient-rich food for our organic garden beds.

We encourage all members to use the shared composting bays

Not sure what counts as "green" vs "brown" waste?
Keep an eye on our Events page for our next "Composting for Beginners" workshop!

By using organic practices, we ensure that Semaphore Hill remains a vibrant, biodiverse ecosystem for generations to come.

Growing Together: The Benefits of Community Gardening

At Semaphore Hill Community Garden, we believe the best things at the garden aren't our plants; it’s our amazing people. As this is a council-backed project, our mission at Semaphore Hill is to utilise reclaimed council land and transform it into a sanctuary for all residents of our community.

Community gardening is a physical activity that boosts mental health and can reduce stress, but the real magic happens in our shared garden beds. Whether you are growing your own seasonal veggies or are part of a gardening community that fosters friendship and pride, we welcome you. Come down this Saturday and see how we’re growing a stronger, healthier community together!
